0x03Volunteer and core team

Help make
BSides happen.

A room ready for a workshop. A speaker finding their stage. An attendee getting the help they need. There is plenty to build together in Dehradun.

Security, above sea level.

01 · Who this is for

You do not need
to be a hacker.

Most roles need care, reliability and a willingness to learn. Some need technical or creative skills. We explain the difference below.

This call is open to everyone aged 18 or older. We actively encourage women and people from underrepresented groups to apply across every area, including technical work and core team responsibilities.

You can apply from outside Dehradun. Core work can usually happen remotely before April. Conference duties happen on site.

02 · Choose your commitment

A few shifts.
Or the months before.

On site · April 2027

Event volunteer

Help on 3 April, 4 April, or both, depending on the role and staffing needs. We agree your days before you accept.

A shift is up to six hours, including a planned break. Complete a role and conduct briefing before starting. Some roles also need a venue walkthrough.

Core team member

Help plan and deliver a part of 0x03. Expect around four to six hours a week before the event, with any busier periods discussed with you.

Both conference days are expected. A one-day exception is possible when the role allows it. Pre-event venue tasks go to Dehradun-based members.

Choose core team

For core work, you can express interest in contributing, co-leading or leading. We discuss the actual responsibility, support and decision-making scope before you commit.

04 · What you receive

Your time
deserves clarity.

  • Entry and meals

Free event entry and meals on your agreed volunteer days.

  • A T-shirt and certificate

For volunteers who complete their agreed work. Digital certificates are sent within 30 days after the conference.

  • Support by agreement

You can request travel help or up to three nights of accommodation. Decisions are case by case, with core team requests prioritised for accommodation. Get written approval before spending or booking.

  • A reference on request

We consider reference letters individually, based on work we can honestly describe.

Volunteering is unpaid. Mentoring is being planned and will be described once mentors and capacity are confirmed.

06 · How we work

Support that
you can ask for.

Read the Code of Conduct

The Code of Conduct applies to organisers and volunteers as well as attendees. It protects volunteers too.

  • You get a named role or shift lead and a briefing on the work and escalation route.
  • Shifts include a break. You will not be assigned alone to an isolated area or a late shift.
  • We agree an end time that works with your normal return transport. A conference bus or funded ride is not guaranteed.
  • You can decline an uncomfortable task and ask your lead for another assignment.
  • Raising a concern in good faith must not result in retaliation.

For the current reporting route, read how to report a concern. The recruitment form is for applications and should not contain incident reports.

Before applications open, we will confirm the volunteer conduct contacts, private reporting access and a separate route for concerns involving those contacts.

07 · Questions

Before
you apply.

Do I need security or technical skills?

Most areas have roles that do not need security skills. Website, AV and technical CTF duties need relevant experience. Tell us what you would like to do or learn, and we will discuss a suitable role.

How much time will this take?

Event volunteers help on one or both days as their role allows, with shifts up to six hours including a break. Core members usually give four to six hours a week before April and attend both conference days. A one-day core exception can be agreed when the role allows it. Briefings and any required walkthrough are explained before acceptance.

Is there any cost to me?

There is no application fee. Entry and meals are covered on your volunteer days. Plan for your own travel and stay unless you have written approval for support. Reimbursement is never assumed from an application or acceptance.

What do I get for volunteering?

Entry and meals on your volunteer days, plus a T-shirt and digital certificate when you complete the agreed work. Accommodation, travel support and reference letters are considered individually. Read the benefits and support details.

Who will I work with and report to?

You get a named role lead before work begins. Amit Pathak coordinates applications, with Aman Kumar overseeing the process. Your role, responsibilities and reporting line are agreed during onboarding.

What if I feel uncomfortable or something goes wrong?

You can decline a task and ask for another. Conduct concerns use the Code of Conduct reporting route, including concerns about organisers, volunteers, sponsors or speakers. We are confirming the volunteer-specific contacts and conflict route before recruitment opens.

Can I volunteer with a friend?

You can both apply. Applications, roles and shifts are considered individually, so we cannot promise that you will work together.

What happens to the information I give you?

When applications open, Google Forms will collect answers for recruitment and volunteer arrangements. The coordinator and Aman review applications; relevant role leads see only applications they need to review. Read the recruitment privacy notice. We do not ask for gender or use application details for marketing.

Can I volunteer if I am under 18?

This recruitment call is for people aged 18 or older. Attendee ticket conditions are separate.

When will I hear back?

We aim for a first personal update within seven calendar days of applying. It may be a progress update rather than a final decision. If you have not heard from us, email [email protected].

Can I change my mind later?

Yes. Tell your coordinator promptly. If possible, give at least seven days' notice before your first shift. Emergencies are an exception.

08 · Your application

Tell us where
you fit.

Two short Google Forms. No CV upload. Hindi or English answers are welcome.
